meet martha.
So when I’m not working on Whit & Whimsy (how do we like that for a new name?)
, I moonlight on my personal blog [www.throwingcake.com]. And this week, I had the amazing joy of being apart of the tech/blogger section of the Martha Show (eeek, Martha Stewart). It was amazing, and a full recap will be on throwingcake, but here are a couple of photo teasers to entice you.
the luecke ladies + one
At the beginning of August, Dawn (the other half of this great team) asked me if I would be willing to take some photos of her and her wee one. She was in the midst of a photo project and realized they didn’t have any great photos together, probably because she is normally on the shooting side of the camera.
So off we went to the Basilica at Catholic University, where I got the chance to shoot not only mom and daughter Luecke, but also shoot the picture that would announce the arrival of Little Luecke #2!
Congratulations Dawn! Can’t wait to take those baby photos.

Dear baby. That week you were the size of a lemon. We can’t wait to meet you!

engagement: renee + jens
At the end of July (in the midst of the hottest week D.C. has seen in a while), Dawn and I had the privilege of photographing Renee and Jens. We knew it was going to be great when this was included in the email from Renee leading up to the day:
To be honest, I’m not sure how good Jens and I are at the whole artsy, whimsical, pretending-to-be-candid posing (the nerdy scientists that we are). The more you guys tell us what to do, the better
We learned two things, 1. we really like when people want to be led and 2. Renee and Jens are actually artsy, whimsical and did an amazing job pretending not to noticed the camera.
Congratulations to the two of you on your upcoming marriage!

dance in action
There are so many creative people in the world, and I am daily inspired by what crosses my screen in the form of blogs, etsy, and in the case of today Slate. A feature devoted to photography of dancers doing dance things in ordinary place.

venn diagram wedding cake
Way back at the end of April (right around the time I fell off the wagon that included photo uploads and blogging), a friend of mine from church, Annelise, married a wonderful man, Jason. I got the joy of making their wedding cake.
Requirements: White buttercream, no flowers, colors = purple & black, and 65 attendees. Away I went using their invitation as my guide. And this is what we got.
Congratulations A+J!
