engagement session: nikki + patrick

I loved this session even before Dawn and I were done, which was great as I was nervous going in as there was a chance that we were going to get rained out. But instead, we had great day capturing, well, Nikki & Patrick. I think the words Dawn kept using were “they are just so cute/adorable,” and it’s true. So since it was so hard to pick our favorites, enjoy an extended post. Also, thanks to the Columbia Firehouse in Alexandria for letting us in before they opened for the Saturday lunch/brunch rush.

Congratulations, Nikki & Patrick!

As a side note, this is what happens when you ask for a first date story.

family session: the teesdales

Dawn and I have had the great joy of getting to know Rebekah & Scott over the past year+ (how long has it actually been, team?) When they asked if they could do a session, before living D.C. for NYC, we jumped at the chance. So we spent an amazing, sunny morning in November frolicking around Capitol Hill and we couldn’t be happier for the results.

Good Luck in NYC, Rebekah & Scott!

family session: the hensons

We don’t play favorites, I promise. But Dawn and I would be hard-pressed to not say that we may love the Henson family a wee bit more then most. As one the first families to support us when we started mini-sessions in 2011, we loved them a lot, and so when they reserved a 2012 spot we were so excited to spend an hour with their wonderful and hilarious family.

Thanks for being the first of the 2012 Fall Mini Sessions, we can’t wait for 2013 (hint, hint). :)

family session: marie, melissa + mac

I love family sessions, but recently I got a “new kinda family” session (yes, I poached that from ABC Family’s tagline). My friend Marie had her siblings in town for a visit and wanted to have photos taken that they could give their parents. It had been four years since they had done a photo session and from what I gathered, the previous set included long hair, partially washed out dyed hair, and well “bad hair”…curious as to what that last one included. So away we went into the industrial portion of NE DC where fun was had by all and jumping photos reigned supreme.

six month: gigi

I have had the honor of being part of Daniel and Kate’s photographic life for quite sometime now. I referred them to their awesome wedding photographer, I got to photograph Gigi when she was only a week old, and so I was thrilled to return for her six-month photos. This child gets cuter by the day, it’s a bit ridiculous. But you can see that for yourself.

maternity session: tiff, 27 weeks

Ever wonder how to shoot maternity photos of a woman on bed-rest? Yeah, so was I. My wonderful housemate and her husband are expecting their first little one to arrive on scene by early October. Around week 22 she was put on bed-rest, thus, she currently spends  about 99% of her time at home and the other 1% of her time at the doctor’s office. I don’t know quite how she does it, but I think we can just chalk it up to her being a stronger woman than I. So, I wanted to do something that she could be excited for and the only thing I can offer (besides a couch-warming, movie-watching companion) were maternity photos.  With a few ideas in mind, we managed to pull a whole session together in our house with limited standing, thus still following doctor’s orders. Success!
